Terms and Conditions
Welcome to LanguageBird
Please read these Terms and Conditions carefully before using our website and services. By accessing or using LanguageBird, you agree to be bound by these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use our services.
These Terms apply to all visitors, students, parents, and partners who access or use our website and educational services. They include our Privacy Policy, which is incorporated by reference.
Who Can Use Our Services
You may use LanguageBird if you are 18 years or older, or if you are between 13 and 17 years old with parental or guardian consent (see Teen Users section below). Users under 13 are not eligible to create accounts. Students under 13 must be supervised by an adult during live online sessions. Your account is for your personal use only. You may not share your login credentials or transfer your account to another person.
Teen Users
If you are between 13 and 17, you may register only with the consent of a parent or legal guardian. Parents and guardians agree to these Terms on behalf of their teen and are responsible for ensuring compliance. Students under 13 must have an adult present during all live video sessions with instructors.
Student Conduct
Students are expected to participate in lessons from appropriate environments with suitable backgrounds for video calls. Students and parents must communicate respectfully with all LanguageBird faculty, staff, and fellow students. This applies to all interactions, including written communications, social media, and in-person events.
Inappropriate behavior or language may result in disciplinary action, including administrative withdrawal from LanguageBird. If a student is administratively withdrawn, no refunds will be issued, and all tuition owed remains due.
Our Programs
Online Private Lessons: We offer accredited language courses for individuals and schools. Each lesson is 60 minutes of live, one-on-one instruction via Microsoft Teams. Students receive study materials and assignments to complete between lessons, requiring approximately 1-2 hours of independent study.
Course Credits: For high school programs, 12 lessons equal one semester (5 credits) and 24 lessons equal a full year (10 credits).
Chirp Room: Our small-group conversation practice sessions are moderated by native-level instructors. These sessions are for practice only and do not provide course credit or grades.
Payment and Tuition
Courses must be paid in full before the first lesson. We accept credit cards, and all payments are processed securely through Stripe. By providing payment information, you authorize LanguageBird to charge applicable fees to your payment method.
Once tuition is paid, no refunds will be issued.
Schools, school districts, and partner organizations may be eligible for volume discounts. Contact [email protected] for details.
Lesson Expiration
Students have 180 days from payment to schedule and attend their first lesson. After that, semester courses expire 4 months after the first lesson, and full-year courses expire 8 months after the first lesson. Summer program lessons must be completed by August 31 of the purchase year. Unused lessons at expiration are forfeited.
Lesson credits are not transferable to another person, family member, or entity.
Attendance and Cancellations
If you need to cancel a lesson, please do so at least 24 hours in advance. Lessons canceled with less than 24 hours notice, or no-shows within 15 minutes of the scheduled start time, will be counted as completed. A $100 makeup fee will be charged to reschedule these lessons for credit-bearing programs.
If a student is late, no additional time will be added. If a teacher is late, they will make up the time during the current or a future lesson. Teachers will wait 15 minutes for late students before marking the session as a no-show.
Tutoring, Test Prep, Conversational Lessons, Mastery Lessons, and Chirp Room sessions are not subject to makeup fees. Missed sessions in these programs are forfeited.
Technical Requirements
Students are responsible for having reliable computer equipment, software, and an internet connection for live lessons via Microsoft Teams. LanguageBird is not responsible for interruptions due to technical issues on the student’s end.
If technical difficulties affect lesson quality, the instructor may continue without video or reschedule the lesson (with a makeup fee charged). Please complete the student orientation and test your setup before your first lesson.
Contact [email protected] or call (844) 700-2473 if you need help.
Proficiency and Progress
Students must demonstrate 70% comprehension and proficiency in the course material before advancing to the next level.
Some students may need additional mastery sessions at an extra cost to meet this requirement or make up for absences.
Teachers provide written feedback and letter grades after each lesson, recorded in shared lesson notes accessible to students and parents through Microsoft Teams.
High School Credit
Parents and students are responsible for coordinating with their high school counselor to ensure LanguageBird courses count toward graduation requirements or appear on the school transcript. LanguageBird can send official transcripts directly to colleges. Transcript requests are available through our website for a $10 fee.
